Welcome Richard Richardson, author of Marketing Judo
Richard Richardson began his career in marketing with Rowntree Mackintosh before spending the next 12 years with multi-national advertising agencies such as BBDO and Young & Rubicam.
He joined John Barnes in the acquisition of Harry Ramsden's and took it form a single Fish and Chip shop in Yorkshire into a highly successful international brand. After years of working with big budgets, Richard who was responsible for Marketing and Franchise Development, had to develop new techniques to market on a shoestring and developed, alongside John, the concept of Marketing Judo.
Following the sale of Harry Ramsden's to Compass PLC, he formed a marketing company with John Barnes where they applied their techniques to numerous other companies and is an active investor in La Tasca Group PLC.
Marketing Judo is not an academic concept. It's a practical hands-on framework based on their experiences that they found helpful in developing business strategies and marketing plans for companies with limited budgets. There are 7 moves in Marketing Judo:
-
Getting the basics right - (Kihon wo tadashiku)
-
Picking the right partner - (Tekisetsu na paatonaa)
-
Choosing the right opponent - (Koutekishu no sentaku)
-
Getting the crowd on your side - (Mikata wo fuyasu)
- Using your size to your advantage - (Mizukara no ririryo wo saizen niikasu)
-
Doing the unexpected - (Ura wo kaku)
-
Keeping your balance - (Baransu wo tamotsu)
Packed with amusing stories from his own experiences as well as practical examples from a whole range of companies, Richard demonstrates how it is always possible to find a competitive advantage – however small your budget or large your opponent!
